EADS and Innovation
EADS is a leading global aerospace and defence company, the world’s second largest in terms of revenue. As a market leader in these sectors, the business depends heavily on the development
and integration of state of the art technology into its products to provide the necessary competitive edge in this demanding arena.
Technology delivery to the business is facilitated through a global network of Technical Capabilities Centres collectively known as EADS Innovation Works.
These are based in Germany, France, Spain, Singapore, Russia as well as the UK and are tasked with the provision of world-class capabilities in the fields of aeronautics, defence and space. The structure of the network is consistent with the EADS research & technology strategy and covers the skills and technology fields that are of critical importance to EADS. As a result, the teams within EADS Innovation Works are organized in six transnational Technical Capability Centres in the fields of;
- Composites Technologies
- Metallic Technologies & Surface Engineering
- Structures Engineering, Production & Mechatronics
- Sensors, Electronics and Systems Integration
- Simulation, Information Technologies & Systems Engineering
- Advanced Concepts
EADS Innovation Works (IW) is an operational and strategic entity for the creation of added value by technology innovation. It fosters technological excellence and business orientation through the sharing of competences and means between the various partners of the EADS group of companies and it
develops and maintains partnerships with world-famous schools, universities and research centres.
EADS Innovation Works is responsible and accountable for identifying new technologies that create value and competitive advantage to the products and processes of EADS. Its role is to assess the scientific areas potentially of interest for the Group, by:
- developing the technologies identified as critical and valuable to the right level of maturity
- securing the transfer of these technologies to the products of the Group inside the organisations of the Business Units,

In this way it contributes to the development of new products and services in EADS and support the EADS Global Strategy via research and technology cooperation.
